WHO WE ARE
We are Lions! We come from all walks of life and all professions. We are students, we are retirees, we are full time workers - but, most importantly, we work together towards the same goal: to help those in need, regardless of where that need is! Our work and efforts have no boundaries, nor do we have labels except one: we are Lions, and we welcome everyone to our pride!
OUR HISTORY
Our international organization started in 1917 in Chicago as a response to needs created by World War 1 and rapid industrialization. In 1925, the well known Helen Keller challenged the Lions to become the "Knights of the Blind", a challenge that they accepted. Following that in 1945, the Lions and 46 other nations formed the non-governmental organization (NGO) section of the United Nations. This section highlighted the International Lions commitment to a "certain and lasting peace in the world".

Today, Lions International continue to work with the UN. We are in over 200 countries and have over 1.4 million members worldwide! Our motto is "Where there is a need, there is a Lion!" and we adhere to that principle by providing disaster relief, vision and hearing assistance, relieving food insecurities, working with diabetes programs, youth support programs, supporting environmental causes as well as helping children and families facing childhood cancer. These causes form our 8 pillars by which we stand by.

After more than 100 years, we are just getting started!
